My whole family is sports fans. Living in Michigan, they support the university games as well as the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons. As part of the the family, every holiday I’m faced with watching one of the sporting events–sometimes two or three and don’t forget golf. We watch those games too. In high school, I attended all the sports events since I usually had a crush on one of the star players or some of my best friends were on the teams. I learned some of the terminology. I knew what getting a basket meant, a field goal, a touchdown, even three strikes and your out, but truly, I am limited.
So with that in mind, why did I choose the lead male of the novel, Her Valentine Hero, to be the coach of the high school football team? I suppose because it erased her high school image of him as her best freind’s pesky younger brother. Face it, sometimes those good-looking hunks in high school or those slim, blond beauties on the cheering squad turn out to be quite different ten or twenty years later. Her Valentin Hero is about this kind of truth.
One of my best novel Influencers is Heather Harden who has been a faithful reader for years and is always willing to read my novels and give an honest review. Her Valentine Hero is the first in the new Sisters series and though Heather felt it started a bit slow, she had some great things to say about the book. Heather said, “It’s refreshing to read a story about two never married people who don’t have kids. Football fans will appreciate Mrs. Martin’s efforts to include coaching details and plays into the story. Even a football novice should enjoy the football style metaphors about love and life..”
So how did I accomplish this? The answer is obvious. I inundated my family (Dan Gaymer and Max Hoffman ) with questions and one of our house guests here in Sedona, Gary Lowery read all the scenes and gave his stamp of approval. What would I do without people who support my work?
By the way, I’m celebrating my 50th novel release wtih Her Valentine Hero. I’ve had many blessings writing for my first publisher Barbour and their Heartsong Presents line. Then Steele Hill came along with the Love Inspired Line aa well as three single titles for them. This is probably my 26th novel with LI.
What’s the book about?
