Meet novelist Marti Pieper
I’m pleased to introduce Marti Pieper whose passion to read, write, and pray has yielded all kinds of adventures. In 2005, her involvement in a prayer project led her to assist Brent and Deanna Higgins as they told their son’s compelling story. The resulting memoir, I Would Die for You: One Student’s Story of Passion, Service, and Faith (Revell, 2008), became a young adult bestseller now in its fourth printing. Today, Marti continues to use her gifts as author, collaborative writer, and editor.
In addition to her work with nonfiction books, she writes and edits for popular Christian teen girls’ magazine, Sisterhood. Marti is involved with so many things, I can’t mention them all but you might like to know Marti holds a B.S.Ed. from Ohio State University and M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She is wife to Tom, a worship pastor, and mom to five amazing children. Find her on Facebook, Twitter, and on her website at www.martipieper.com.
So let’s here from Marti:
“Cool! What kind of ghosts do you write about?”a young salesman asked when I told him I worked as a ghostwriter. “Like Stephen King?”
I chuckled. “Not exactly. The kind of writing I’ve done has less to do with scary stuff and more to do with helping others who don’t have time or ability to put their messages and stories into print. In the past, this has often meant my name didn’t appear on the book covers even when I did all the writing work.
Ghostwriting is more common than you might think. As you can imagine, few celebrities can fit time to write books into their schedules. I’ve often written for busy pastors or conference speakers who have this same scheduling problem. Often, they have wonderful teaching to share but need help taking it from oral to written form.
On May 20, a book I wrote for Dr. Walker Moore will be released May 20 with Randall House. Since my name appears on the cover, I’m not Casper anymore! That excites me, because I truly believe in the message of Escape the Lie: Journey to Freedom from the Orphan Heart. Last week, Walker and I received some exciting news: Bart Millard, lead singer for the contemporary Christian band Mercy Me (“Word of God Speak” and “I Can Only Imagine”) has agreed to write the Foreword for our book. The Orphan Heart is evident throughout Scripture. It’s what caused the Prodigal Son to rebel—and what caused his older brother to try to be perfect. Walker’s teaching and true-life stories provide hope and help that will take readers on their own journey to true freedom in Christ. I was honored to put them all together in Escape the Lie.
Thanks for hosting me, Gail (and for having such a cool name—it’s my middle name, too)!
From Gail: Thanks, Marti, It’s been fun hosting you and getting to know you better. Anyone with Gail somewhere in their name has to be a nice person. Ignore the silly grin on my face. And thank you, Readers/Hunters.
