Christmas Blessings and a Joyful New Year

With Christmas on our doorstep, I know that we are in a fury to finish preparing for Christmas which means shopping, decorating, baking, and planning. Holiday parties are in the air, the scent of spices fill the house, and piles of wrapping paper or gift bags are found in a variety of locations. At least that’s my house, but I hope that you are also planning a time to remember the reason we celebrate and give thanks to God for the blessings of the year and for the huge Christmas gift of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, born in a stable and placed in a manger. Not wrapped in royal robes but in swaddling clothes.  So far this year, I have sung in a Christmas cantata, attended programs of wonderful Christmas music and shared in the fellowship of talking with friends and eating way too much which means lots of exercise in the year new year.

And speaking of the new year, I’m sure we’ve all looked back at 2017 and asked ourselves what has happened? Disasters from all sides – floods, storms, fires, and murder of people at concerts, churches, on streets and festivals. It’s easy to be frightened and be filled with anger. Yet, to take a positive action is to provide an example of good opposed to bad, keep your hope and faith sharp, pray for the safety of your family and friends, and do to others as you would have them do to you. How can we go wrong with a positive attitude?

Then spend more time thinking about your blessings. What good has happened in your life? Births, healing, jobs, education, awards, friendships? Sometimes we forget the good things. Living in a  new city and state, I am so happy that I’ve met some wonderful people who are becoming friends. I am thrilled that I am working with Winged Publications as my book publisher, and am so very happy that my Christmas novel has sold well and has received good reviews. I  wish you those kinds of blessings in whatever you do. Make a list of the blessings you’ve had this year and then celebrate.
